The entire process of immigration is an incredibly complex one. Most citizens, if faced with having to properly fill out the forms and supply all the necessary information to be able to legally immigrate to this country, would have trouble doing everything correctly. So an immigrant who’s probably not as proficient in English and doesn’t have as much an understanding of how the law works in the United States is only going to have even more problems doing everything correctly without the help of a skilled immigration lawyer.

How Immigration Mistakes Can Cost You

With many legal and paperwork matters, if mistakes are made they’re simply fixed later. Especially will legal matters, mistakes can delay settlements and make something that should be simple turn into quite a complex problem. With almost anything involving paperwork, mistakes cause delays. But once matters are fixed, life goes on as usual.

In immigration matters, however, mistakes can do more than delay things and cause headaches. Even one mistake could eventually lead to you having to leave the United States. The paperwork that must be filled out for immigration is so complex, detailed and tedious, that even skilled immigration lawyers have to be extra careful to get everything exactly right. The documentation that must be provided has to be in perfect order, too.

And immigration laws change frequently, which is something that most people seeking immigration aren’t going to be able to keep up with. A good immigration lawyer will always be aware of the changes in immigration law, to ensure that he or she does everything correctly. An immigration lawyer knows the dire consequences of paperwork or documentation handled incorrectly, and won’t want to see a client deported because of a simple technical or clerical error.

Why You Need an Immigration Lawyer

If you’re still considering handling your immigration case yourself, you might be thinking that you can get all the help you need from places like the United Stated Citizenship and Immigration Service, the INS or the US Department of State or Labor. Though while these agencies are there to handle immigration issues, they are not there to explain everything in detail to you and lead you through the process.

You won’t get the same kind of help you would from an immigration lawyer. These agencies may be required to answer your questions and offer explanations for things you don’t understand, but that's no guarantee they will answer your questions thoroughly in a way that you can easily understand.

You can’t afford to make mistakes in these important documents and risk having to leave the country. Not to mention, each time you have to file something again, it adds to the already substantial cost. So your immigration lawyer will not only answer your questions, but will take it upon himself to handle everything for you, from representing you in front of the necessary boards and hearings, to preparing the necessary documents and paperwork, all while keeping you informed each step of the way.
