The first step to obtaining a US citizenship is completing the citizenship application. The application form can be downloaded from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website.

Application Form

The application for naturalization must be made on Form N 400. This form is available on the USCIS website. There are many other websites that will also provide you with a Form N 400. The guide available with the form has an eligibility test. You should take this test. This will let you know if you are eligible for naturalization. You can also take such eligibility test online. By taking this test, you can make sure you are actually eligible.

Documentation

Before you start filling the application, make sure you have all the required documents with you. You will need documents to show that you are eligible. You must submit evidence of eligibility along with your application. Documents that are useful include:

  • Your passport
  • Your birth certificate
  • Your social security card
  • Your employment information
  • Your Permanent Resident or Alien Registration Card
