US Citizenship

U.S. Citizenship is granted either by birth, blood, or the naturalization process. If you are born in the U.S., you are automatically a U.S. citizen. Likewise, if you are born anywhere in the world to a U.S. citizen, you are automatically a U.S. citizen. If you do not fall within either of these two categories, then your only option to obtain U.S. citizenship is through naturalization. In order to be eligible to become a naturalized U.S. citizen, you must be over 18 years of age, have lived primarily in the U.S. for at least five years (three years for spouses of U.S. citizens), and have become a permanent resident alien. Furthermore, you must be able to speak and write English, pass a citizenship examination, be of good moral character, and take an oath of allegiance to the U.S.
