Population Is Effecting Water
Eleven Northwest suburban townships are likely to face drastic water shortages in 20 years, according to a study by the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission.5 Four of those townships are in Kane County, which has the largest predicted shortages.
The number of residents using Lake Michigan water, which accounts for 83 percent of the water used in the region, has increased dramatically over the last 20 years. Officials expect its water will not continue to be available to many expanding communities.6
