The amount that an individual pays for the provision and verification of his or her non immigration visa application and its issuance depends on the total of residence, entry, visa or similar charges, taxes, and fees that the foreign country of which such a non immigrant is a national charges United States nationals. Some aliens qualify for either a reduction or a waiver of the fee by the Secretary of State for application and issuance of a non immigrant visa. Those include aliens entering the U.S. predominantly for charitable endeavors such as the provision of job training, housing, or food, service to the poor or needy, or nursing or health care.
