Yes, under limited circumstances, you can file an Application to Preserve Residences for Naturalization. The USCIS form N-470 purpose is to allow immigrants who already have permanent resident status to continue to be credited with time spent living in the U.S. even if they have to live outside the U.S. temporarily for employment purposes.
It should be noted that anyone with permanent resident status should not leave the U.S. (at all) for at least one year immediately after receiving their status if they wish to file form N-470 in the future. The preservation of residence for naturalization is not available to everyone who wants to live outside the U.S. for more than a year for employment purposes.
The form N-470 is intended for qualified employees of the U.S. government, some specific private sector employers, and religious organizations. Once your form N-470 is approved, you will still need to request a reentry permit before leaving the U.S. for more than one year.
