Different presidents have different priorities. The immigration laws are always changing and while a new president may want to change the law, he would have to have the support of Congress to make those changes. He can however put different methods of enforcement in place. For example, President Barack Obama has promised to crack down on employers who hire illegal immigrants rather than crack down on the illegal immigrant workers. On July 2, 2009, federal officials issued notices to 652 businesses which will be audited for illegal immigrant workers. 650 businesses would be more than the number audited in the entire fiscal year of 2008.
