USA Citizenship

The ultimate goal for many immigrants is to gain USA citizenship. Citizenship to the United States is granted by either birth in the country or naturalization whereby they become a citizen of the country through a lengthy process. Immigrants that come to the United States are only provided a stay for a specified amount of time and though they may hope to gain citizenship to the United States, it often doesn't result in that. Citizenship in the United States relies on a person's background, ability to demonstrate a good living and character, and an ability to pass a citizenship test. Gaining citizenship in the United States, either through birth or naturalization, entitles an individual to certain rights in a democracy that many wish to be a part of.

Fast Facts

  • If at least one parent lived legally within the United States prior to a baby's birth abroad, that baby is still considered to be a citizen of the country.
  • After an individual files their N400 form, the next and final step towards gaining citizenship in the United States is to pass a 100 question test.
