Social Security Illegal Immigrants

In an effort to stem counterfeit Social Security Cards and tighten restrictions on the employment of foreign nationals unauthorized to work in the United States, the Obama administration introduced a Bill into the House of Representatives, the Illegal Immigration Enforcement and Social Security Protection Act of 2009. The Bill would amend Title II of the Social Security Act to require the inclusion of encrypted machine-readable electronic identification strips on Social Security Cards. The Bill would further require the development of the identification strip in a manner that enable employers to access an Employment Eligibility Database, the transmission to the Secretary of Homeland Security necessary information from an individual's application for a Social Security Card or Number for inclusion into to the Employment Eligibility Database. The Bill would also prohibit individuals from engaging in employment with a U.S. employer without a Social Security Card that meets the requirements of the Bill,
