Immigrant Visa USA

In most cases, in order for a foreign national to be eligible for an immigrant visa for the United States, he must be sponsored by a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, or prospective employer who files a petition on his behalf. There are 3 major immigrant categories: immediate relative and family sponsored immigrants; employer sponsored immigrants; and special immigrants, which would include Iraqi or Afghan Translators or Interpreters, Iraqis or Afghans who worked for or on behalf of the U.S. Government and religious workers. One the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) approves an immigrant petition, the visa undergoes processing with the Department of State. Another process, the Diversity Visa Program, allows immigrants from countries with low rates of immigration to the U.S. an opportunity to apply for lawful permanent residence in the United States. Unlike the other paths to immigrating to the United States, those coming to the U.S. through the Diversity Program are not required to have sponsors.
