Green Card Marriage

Green card marriage can be a rather complicated and involved process. Most often a United States citizen marries a foreign-born individual and petitions in hopes of them getting their Green Card. Spouses of United States citizens are considered to be "immediate relatives" under immigration laws and are thereby excluded from quota limitations. There are a number of questions that must be answered prior to an individual receiving a Green Card through marriage as the government will want to see proof of the relationship and track that it lasts for a sufficient amount of time. On a more temporary basis, United States citizens may petition that their intended spouse be granted a K1 visa to allow them to come live in the country as they plan on marrying. The ultimate goal though is that the spouse receives a Green Card thus allowing them to live in the United States for an indefinite period of time as a permanent resident.
