Two Men Charged For Falsely Claiming To Be Father And Son Two natives of Afghanistan have been indicted here on immigration fraud charges for falsely claiming to be father and son in an effort to obtain the younger man an immigrant visa.
John Mohammed Janan, 55, of Escondido, and Mustafa Jaan-Agaha, 23, of San Diego, are charged for allegedly devising a scheme that enabled Jaan-Agaha to immigrate to the United States in 1997. Janan, a naturalized United States citizen, fraudulently applied for an immigrant visa for Mustafa in 1996, claiming the younger man was his son.
The five-count indictment naming the two men is the result of an on-going investigation by ICE and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that began last year. To confirm the fraud, ICE agents in San Diego collected DNA evidence from Jaan-Aghan. Meanwhile, FBI agents collected DNA from Janan, who was working as a contract interpreter for the United States Department of Defense in Afghanistan. A comparison of the men's DNA verified they were not related. Read more at ice.gov
