Man Found Living In East Hartford After Second Deportation Sentenced To 46 Months In Federal Prison
Kevin J. O'Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that Gleroy Byron Gooden, age 40, last residing at 302 O'Connell Drive, East Hartford, Connecticut, was sentenced on Friday, June 16, by United States District Judge Mark R. Kravitz in New Haven to 46 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for illegally re-entering the United States after having been deported. Gooden pleaded guilty to the charge on March 29. Following service of his term of imprisonment, Gooden will be deported to Jamaica.
According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, Gooden was twice deported from the United States to Jamaica, in July 2002 and July 2005. On February 2, 2006, Gooden was arrested at the East Hartford address where he was residing.
When Gooden was deported, it was based in part on his prior convictions for several aggravated felonies.Gooden has prior convictions for sale of hallucinogens/narcotics, sale of a controlled substance, assault of public safety or emergency medical personnel, possession of narcotics, and possession of a controlled substance.
Before re-entering the United States, anyone who has been deported must have the express consent of the U.S. Attorney General or his successor, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
This case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with assistance from state and local officers of the Fugitive Task Force. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anastasia E. King.
